The New WoW Profession: Inscription

There hasn’t been a lot of information released on what Inscription will be, but from my understanding it sounds interesting for sure.  It will allow you to enhance and change the way your current skills and talents work.  For example, want a faster casting Pyroblast?  Get the Inscription to reduce the cast time.  Or more healing for heal spells, etc.

This profession is going to be very hard to balance.

  2. WoWlover Says:

this profession sounds alot like enchanting, or what gems do when socketed in your armor, so probobly nothing new just a new way to further enhance existing gear.

  3. Wow player Says:

My gyess is Inscription will allow players to make scrolls like INT or Stam without having to find them which is a pain. This will be great for instances where you dont have a mage for an INT buff or if your just leveling and want that boost. Cant see its going to be much different from Alchemy since they have pretty much covered the same stuff with that. I am sure there are going to be some more additions added to it, but as of right now I cant think of what. Maybe also some portal scrolls for mages that run out of regs to cast the spell.

  4. Informed Says:

This’ll be nothing like gems, enchanting or scrolls
It allows you to customize skills, reducing cooldown, increasing damage and range etc..
and will probably be fairly expensive to level

  5. Inscriber Says:

From what i did understand, inscription lets you csutomize your spells etc., like Informed said. But i also guess that it will have trade-offs as well. For example: decrasing cast time of Pyroblast from 6 sec to 3 sec will have a trade-off like increased mana for cast and longer CD to be able to recast Pyroblast, since such an efford should exhaust someone Physically as well as Mental.

  6. Someone Says:

Well, i think this gonna be all about changing spells.. take down the things u want etc. But it sounds to me like it’s going to cost ALOT to get your skill up! and i guess u can make it to 450 ? don’t know if it said anythink about it , just guessing now :P Think u need to boost this up to have a change to max it, painfull! Thx blizzard. Still hoping it wont wipe out…

  7. Gambitt Says:

mmm im wondering as to how this will fit in with the current prof’s.

Will it be like enchanting, where nothin reay goes with, or BS’in where you HAVE to have mining or your stupid…

Whatever it uses, the price will surely go up.. meaning a whole new economy…

  8. Hmm Says:

since it will have too have items needed already in the game ( jc had ore) it will probably fall down on enchanting stuff ( shards, essences, dust)+ i heard it is going ot be on scrolls so specialised paper, inks, etc. it will completely change pvp, mages wil have to have it i think.

  9. Din Says:

I think the inscription will give major boosts to spells but will act like enchants do when you put them on armor or weapons. It will most likely cost about the same as enchanting. I also think it will make your armor/weapons look really cool. example the glowing runes on frostmourne.

  10. Tiny Says:

Me and some of my friends have thought that it might be done with herbalism, you are going to need special ink and paper, you would use the herbs to make them.

  11. thejudas Says:

I think that the new prof sounds excellent. I’ve heard alot about reducing casting time of pyroblast, or reduce casting time of other long spells. But from other web sites i’ve read things like reduce mana cost, and improve crit chance, decrease cooldown. I imagine you will be able to extend duration or potency of buffs, the possabilities are really endless. I dont know what the mats will be, or what other prof will best pair with inscribing, but i do know that if blizzard does it right, it will be an awesome addition to an already amazing game.

  12. Curtass Says:

I think that as with the last expansion they’re going to make all the other professions better as well. so regardless of how good or expensive inscription is going to be to level it will be no different than leveling other professions or they would ruin the balance of the game. similarly the low level inscription’s will be just as crappy as low level enchants or low level armor on an 80, but for a low level they will be very powerful. but once again getting to the max lvl will be very expensive but no more than other professions.

  13. Says Says:

i like this i think i play wow for long time and
i like a new profession any1 know when the expansion set is in shop

    Thanks from

its set for release in august this year for the UK but I don’t know about anywhere else. And by the way, inscribing will not take its literal form of scrolls etc as some here have speculated but will be similar to enchanting. I also hear, whilst talking on the subject that enchanters will instead of enchanting gear directly, create items that are fully tradable and auctionable for use on items. I would expect that inscription will be similar like this, to reduce scamming and pointless spamming of trade channels and countless hours being wasted by players. Good move, blizz. Good move.

  15. Xd Says:

Hazz… I really hope your correct. As an enchanter we waste time or profitabilty by either spamming lfw or by trying to get to that next level by constantly enchanting the same item over again. If enchanters could scribe scrolls for auction that would eliminate both problems at once. I’ve been trying to research this through varioius sites and your the first to even have mentioned that general idea. Here’s to you and hopes that Blizz does the right thing with scribing.

  16. sam Says:

    What reagents will it require?

  17. sammy Says:

Most people here are talking about creating scrolls or something along those lines to change buff or reduce casting time etc…

    FROM BLIZZ WEBSITE
The Inscription profession will allow players to permanently enhance their own spells and abilities and those of other players. You can think of it as enchanting for your spells and abilities.

The word “permanently” sounds a little different than the scroll idea.

  18. OMGROGUE! Says:

will you be able to inscribe meelee things, cause the only things i have heard are for spells, they are going to have to do trade-offs, so thins would not get too OP, like imagine getting ambushed, and being stunned for 3 seconds? that would be INSANE!

this is gonna completly change PvP just like resilience didl.

if anyone knows the answer to my question, post it please.

  19. Jack Says:

You are all work as i work for blizzard but recently had to quit due to the fact i relocated in California Inscription is going to be a professions that allows the user and user ONLY to create special abailities for there toons that other toons have for example you can be a tank and have inscription and can specialize in certain skills such as healing wave although it will not be as strong and the profession is going to be very coastly to level up there is also procs about it but you will have to wait till it is released to find out more.

  20. Me Says:

I think the scroll idea is more along the lines of: The scroll will be used to make the inscription and then sold on ah, traded, whatever to another player. The other player reads the scroll to enhance his ability by the scroll. So it is just a medium of sale. Anyway I hope it works something like that cause if it works like enchanting that will bite.

  21. Kevin Says:

So does the inscription only benifit you? This profession is independant yeah?

  22. Linn Says:

I think it is that you inscribe something like a power word in your chest / legs etc

  23. Maeco Says:

Well, you must be aware, the implementation of a ‘form’ of tradable enchants are already in game. Take a look at the enchants that are available for turning in Holy Dust at the Aldor Quatermaster (don’t know the Scryer equivalent). This mechanism only need to be extended on the normal enchants.

Inscription probably will pick this up right away from the start. You simply buy a special kind of scroll which can be used in your Spellbook (ability book if you like).

Don’t expect any super radical improvements though, like decreasing cast time by 50% without any other drawbacks. The ‘green’ uncommon inscriptions will probably only ‘do’ a few percentages, lower ratings or very short time modifications.
The higher quality (and thus more expensive) ones will modify a bit more/stronger.

Probably but not very likely you will have inscriptions which will strongly affect an ability, but will contain some nasty drawback. The abilities that are a subject for these inscriptions are abilities that you don’t use in your average combat rotation, but more as a special kind.

For example, this could be the personal teleport spell of a mage to translocate himself to a city. This inscription could decrease the cast time by 90% and makes it combat castable. Now it will serve as a escape death ability, but of course at a cost! You won’t be able to cast any spells anymore for 30 minutes (due to some mind exhaustion if you like ;) ).

Back to the normal part of inscription: Probably some abilities have multiple variations. Take taunt for example; There are multiple inscription variations to be thought about:
    - Decreasing the cooldown
    - Increasing the duration
    - Make it work AoE but decreasing the duration (with 500% for example)

How this will fully work out, we can only wait and see for ourselfs :) .

    Regards,

    Maeco – Zenedar – Horde

  24. DARK Says:

its not for gear its for spells

  25. Kariya Says:

Ok, so we have heard about everything…BUT if it is self’sustained???
would anyone be able to guess or say if it is? if so then thank you, and if not i would appreciate it if someone would find out

    Thank You

  26. Bob Says:

Lol I thought it was able to do stuuf with your spells, not with your gear

  27. Anthony Says:
