The Lore of Northrend
During the Lore and Quests panel at Blizzcon, Chris Metzen and Alex Afrasiabi went over some of the lore and plot lines for Wrath of the Lich King as well as giving some glimmers to some of the races and background of Northrend.
Arthas will make himself known and begin to pester the Alliance and the Horde so each will send envoys to tackle the problem. Some old heroes will make their return in Northrend as well as new heroes introduced. Garrosh Hellscream and Sylvanas will play a part, as will Highlord Bolvar Fordragon and Brann Bronzebeard, and Tirion Fordring and the Order of the Silver Hand.
There was made mention of Tirion, as well as Ashbringer.
It was discussed that the dwarves will further their knowledge of how life began on Azeroth with talk of the Titans.
There will be several new races introduced with Wrath of the Lich King as well. Taunka are ancient relatives to Tauren, albeit more bullish, less spiritual in nature. The Tuskarr are a fun race of Walrus people. Iron dwarves will be key to the overarcing storyline for WotLK. Vrykul is a new race in the Howling Fjord, Giant dark vampyric vikings which will also tie into the Titan mythos.
As far as Arthas goes, he was the driving force in Warcraft3, and Blizzard wants him to be approachable from the moment we start questing in Northrend. You will be able to interact with Arthas as early as level 70.
It was hinted that Malygos will return and will wage war on magic to purify the world.
There was much more discussed, and we will bring you more as details become available!
